Steve Finkernagel Matt Buono finished with the third best time in school history at the NCAA Mideast Regional Saturday WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS CONCLUDE SEASON AT NCAA MIDEAST REGIONAL AS SCHOOL RECORDS FALL 11/16/2013 4:50:00 PM WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS CONCLUDE SEASON AT NCAA MIDEAST REGIONAL AS SCHOOL RECORDS FALL BETHLEHEM, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams concluded their respective 2013 seasons running at the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday held at the campus of Lehigh University and hosted by Muhlenberg College. The Colonel men finished 40th of 54 teams in the 8k race while the Lady Colonels also claimed 40th out of 52 teams in the earlier 6k meet. It marked the best finish in school history for both squads at the regional. Rachel Quinn (Goshen, NY/Goshen) led the Wilkes women with a time of 25:20, good for ninth all-time on the school's record list. She broke her previous personal best time of 25:36 at the Lock Haven Invitational. Tracey Hilker (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) followed with a time of 26:18, while Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) finished at 26:27. Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) ran a time of 26:41 and Rachel Constant (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame ) crossed the line at 26:54. Melanie Faherty (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) rounded out the Lady Colonel runners with a time of 27:55. Johns Hopkins University took the women's team championship with 26 total places. Dickinson followed in second with 94 points while Marywood settled for third with 118 total places. A total of 358 participants ran in the 6k race. Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) led the Colonel men breaking his previous school record of 28:37 he set at the Gettysburg Invitational with a time of 28:10. Matt Buono came in at 28:50, the third fastest time in school history, while Tyler Sutton (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) finished at 28:54 for fourth all-time. Daniel Lykens (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) crossed the line at 29:25. Forest Hawkins (Ashley, PA/Hanover) (30:07), Martin Tolbert (York, PA/William Penn) (31:02) and Tyler Layton (Endicott, NY/Main Endwell) (31:16) rounded out the Wilkes competitors. Johns Hopkins completed the sweep with their men winning the team title with 62 total places. Dickinson followed in second with 88 points, while Haverford claimed third place with 106 total places.
