WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; MEN FINISH 9^TH, WOMEN 13^TH

CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams ran at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon held on the campus of DeSales University. The Colonels men finished in 9^th place of 17 teams in the 8k race while the Lady Colonels claimed 13^th place in the 6k event.

The Wilkes men finished with 311 total points for ninth place, trailing eighth place Eastern University by 51 points. Widener University notched the MAC Team Championship with 40 points.

Tyler Sutton (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) led the men placing 55^th with a time of 29:38. Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) followed in 60^th place with a time of 30:12, while Matt Buono placed 63^rd crossing the line at 30:41. Forect Hawkins finished 65^th at 31:00, Dan Lykens placed 68^th at 31:20, and Martin Tolbert (York, PA/William Penn) claimed 70^th place with a time of 31:38. Tyler Layton (Endicott, NY/Main Endwell) rounded out the Colonel scorers in 80^th place at 32:52.

Other Wilkes finishers included Brett Ward (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) (33:47), Trevor Kapschull (Lake Ariel, PA/Western Way) (34:26), Evan Witmer (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) (35:06), and Sam Miller (36:10).

The Wilkes women finished with 354 total points, just nine points behind Lycoming College who finished 12^th overall. Elizabethtown College claimed the women's MAC Team Championship with 35 points.

Vianna Crowley top the Lady Colonels in 64^th place with a time of 27:54. Rachel Quinn (Goshen, NY/Goshen) followed in 65^th place at 27:57. Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) ran a time of 28:10 for 71^st, while Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) finished in 73^rd place crossing the line at 28:28. Tracey Hilker (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) came in 81^st at 29:04, while Melanie Faherty (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (84^th/29:11) and Rachel Constant (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame ) (87^th/29:24).

Other Wilkes finishers included Christie O'Brien (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (31:07), Devanie Craft (Meadville, PA/Milton-Hershey) (31:10), Stacey Kandrac (32:28), Cheyenne Barnes (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) (34:38), and Vanessa Ejiofor (Union, NJ/Union) (38:21).

Both squads return to action next Saturday hosting the Wilkes University Invitational at 10:00 a.m. at Kirby Park before wrapping up the season at the NCAA Mid-East Regionals at Muhlenberg College on November 16.
