With the loss Wilkes slips to 11-12 overall and 4-9 in Freedom play. DeSales improves to 19-5 overall and 11-2 in league contests. With an FDU-Florham win over Eastern and subsequent Wilkes loss, the Colonels are eliminated from postseason contention. DeSales took a slim 42-40 lead to the break as Chris Shovlin (Kingston, PA/G.A.R.) led the Colonel offense with 12 first half points adding four assists. The Colonels tied the game at 42 apiece as Cameron Hinkel (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) scored a layup on Wilkes' second possession of the second half. From there the Bulldogs used a 16-8 run over eight minutes to open up its largest lead of the game 58-48 with just under twelve minutes left. A Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) layup and three-pointer brought Wilkes back to within five, 58-53 with 9:40 on the clock. After the lead grew back to ten, Shovlin buried a long three-pointer followed by a jumper to pull the Colonels to within five again, 69-64 with 5:12 remaining. It would be the closes the Colonels would come as DeSales took advantage of three Wilkes turnovers and one offensive foul over the final six possessions of play to secure the 84-72 home conference victory. Shovlin led the way offensively finishing with a game-high 24 points on 8-for-17 shooting including four three-pointers. He added two rebounds and seven assists. Stravinski enjoyed a career-night following with 20 points on 7-for-14 shooting including four treys. Mike Coleman led three Bulldogs in double figures with 19 points and three rebounds. Paul Pammer added 16 points, while Brett Moyer contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. Both teams shot the ball well as Wilkes finished at 45.2 percent (28-62) from the floor, while DeSales went 48.0 percent (24-50) from the field. Wilkes concludes its regular season Saturday with a trip to cross-town rival King's College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium. Print Friendly Version
