WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS SUFFERS FIRST DEFEAT OF SEASON AGAINST HAVERFORD, 5-4

HAVERFORD, PA – In a battle of two top twenty regionally ranked teams, host No. 16 Haverford College posted a 5-4 win over No. 7 Wilkes University Wednesday night at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.

Wilkes suffers its first defeat of the 2012-13 campaign falling to 6-1 overall. Haverford improves to 4-2 on the year.

Wilkes opened with a 2-1 lead after doubles competition thanks to wins at No. 2 and No. 3 pairs. The duo of Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) and Ana English captured their match 9-8 (10-3) at No. 2 and Amanda Holyk (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) and Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to provide Wilkes with some breathing room heading into singles play.

Haverford would take No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 singles in straight sets before Holyk and English were victorious at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. Holyk earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 win followed by English's 6-2, 6-0 winner.

Haverford claimed the match with a clinching win at No. 6 singles as Kristen Anderson outlasted Amanda Rossi (Fogelsville, PA/Parkland) 6-4, 6-4 to give the Fords the 5-4 win.

Wilkes returns to the court Monday with a match at Division II Bloomsburg University at 3:30 p.m.
