WILKES BASEBALL DROPS DOUBLEHEADER TO DESALES
CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Wilkes University baseball team dropped a doubleheader at DeSales Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference action.

Wilkes stands at 7-4 overall and 1-3 in Freedom play while DeSales improves to 9-4 and 4-0 in conference play.

Despite outhitting the Bulldogs in the first game, DeSales was able to take advantage of fielding mishaps by the Colonels to win game one 6-5. Wilkes picked up three runs in the top of the first when Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) tripled down the right field line to score Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) who reached on an error and a hit by pitch. Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) then singled in Pisanchyn to cap the three run inning.

Wilkes surrendered four runs in the bottom half the first, but got two of those runs back in the top of the third. Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) and Pisanchyn singled to start the inning, only to advance to third and second on a wild pitch. Adam Misuira hit an RBI fielder's choice to plate Dantas and Tim Benner (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Pisanchyn. The Bulldogs got the lead back with two runs in the fifth. Wilkes got the tying run to third base with one out in the seventh, but the comeback fell short as Trevor Connors got the last two outs to pick up his second save of the season.

Lopresto and Pisanchyn had two hits each while Brandon Michael (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) garnered the tough-luck loss going five innings allowing three earned runs and five hits on three strikeouts.

In game two, DeSales grabbed a quick lead with a five run first and a single tally in the second frame. Wilkes got a run back in the fourth when Eric Hauer (Wapwallopen, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area). In the seventh, Schappell singled and then scored on a Zak Berg (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) single.

Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) led the Colonel offense with two hits. Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) went four innings suffering the loss on the mound.

The Bulldogs were led by Brian Mauro who had a 3-for-4 day with two RBI's. Steven Wallace garnered his first win of the season.

The Colonels return to action when they travel to Williamsport March 26th for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference matchup with Penn College.
