Wilkes improves to 9-4 while FDU-Florham falls to 8-8. After both teams put up zeroes in the first two frames, the Colonels struck for four runs in the top of the third. Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) and Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) got on base on consecutive errors from the Devil defense before Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) plated Lopresto on a single to center. After a groundout, Ruch hit a two run double to right center, and Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) hit a single down the left field line to plate Ruch. Wilkes scored three runs with two outs in the inning. Still up 4-0 in the fifth, Wilkes garnered two more runs on a booted ball hit from Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) and an RBI double from Tim Benner (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia). Both runs were again, scored with two outs. FDU-Florham responded with a single tally in the bottom half of the inning. After giving up two Devil runs in the bottom of the eighth, FDU-Florham was in distance of making a comeback. The Devils got one back in the ninth, but Tyler Schmitt (Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) eventually closed the door to earn his fifth save of the season and secure the 6-4 victory. The Devils were led by Nick Core with three hits including a home run. Ruch had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI's. Schappell also had a hit and scored a run. Condo was magnificent on the mound, going six innings allowing five hits and one unearned run on four strikeouts. Wilkes will return to action tomorrow when they host the Devils at Artillery Park.
