WILKES WOMEN'S LAX FALLS 10-7 AGAINST ARCADIA IN FREEDOM HOME OPENER
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team stormed out to a 5-3 first half lead, but visiting Arcadia University used seven second half goals to complete a furious comeback to post a 10-7 win over the Lady Colonels Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes drops to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in Freedom games. Arcadia improves to 9-4 on the year, 2-1 in league contests.
 
Wilkes opened the scoring as Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) scored the first of her four goals in the game to give the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the first half. Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) upped the advantage to 2-0 scoring an unassisted tally at the 26:19 mark.
 
Arcadia cut the lead in half as Dawn Faranetta scored the Knights first goal with 18:27 on the clock. Another Kerr goal followed by two unanswered Arcadia tallies tied the game at 3-3 with just under twelve minutes left in the half.
 
Kerr added her third strike on the afternoon and Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored off an assist from Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) to give Wilkes a 5-3 lead heading into the break.
 
The second half belong to the Knights as Arcadia scored its first of seven goals eight minutes into the frame. Smith and Kerr added goals for Wilkes in the second half, but some solid play in net from Arcadia's Jordyn Dunacusky secured the win and dashed the hopes of a Wilkes rally late.
 
Kerr finished with four goals to lead the Wilkes offensive attack. Smith followed with two goals, while Brownsey added one tally.
 
Faranetta scored four goals in the win for Arcadia. Haylee Malloy added three strikes while Meghan Fallon, Jenna Crothers, and Jaclyn Feffer each posted one goal.
 
Brittaney Costigan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was superb in net for Wilkes finishing with a season-high eight saves playing all sixty minutes. Dunacusky made nine saves, including several key stops late, to collect the win in goal for Arcadia.
 
Wilkes held a slight 25-23 shot advantage while controlling the draw controls 12-7.
 
Wilkes returns to play Wednesday with another vital Freedom matchup at Misericordia University at 4:30 p.m.
