CONDO THROWS GEM IN GAME ONE, COLONELS BATS PRODUCE SEVEN RUNS IN GAME TWO ON WAY TO CLEAN SWEEP AT DVC
 
DOYLESTOWN, PA – Freshman Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) threw a five-hit shutout in game one and the Colonels bats erupted for seven runs in game two to post a clean sweep of Delaware Valley College Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference baseball action. Wilkes took game one 2-0 behind the brilliant pitching of Condo then posted a 7-2 victory in the night cap.
 
Wilkes moves to 18-11 overall and 9-9 in Freedom games while Delaware Valley drops to 16-18 overall and 4-14 in league contests.
 
Condo was the story on the mound in game one going all seven innings scattering five hits to record the shutout victory for Wilkes. He fanned five batters while walking just one.
 
The Colonels offense broke open a tie game in the fifth when Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) singled up the middle scoring Nick Craig (Springfield, PA/The Haverford School). Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) added an insurance run in the sixth when he connect on an RBI single through the right side scoring Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer).
 
The Wilkes offense produced seven runs on seven hits in game two on way to the win. After drawing a bases loaded walk in the first, Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) drive in two more runs in the fifth with a double to left centerfield. The Colonels rally continued in the fifth scoring three more times using an RBI hit from Eric Hauer (Wapwallopen, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) who later found the plate on a pickoff play at second scoring from third on the play.
 
Another RBI single from Dantas later in the contest, is fourth run batted in of the day, secured the three-game sweep of DVC.
 
Brandon Carling (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge Area) started and went six innings allowing seven hits and two runs picking up his second win of the year. He struck out a season-high seven batters while walking three.
 
Wilkes returns to the diamond tomorrow (Sunday) hosting local rival Marywood University at 1:00 p.m. for a nine-inning affair at Artillery Park.
