EDWARDSVILLE – Sophomore Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) scored a season-high seven goals and added three assists surpassing the 100-goal mark for her career leading Wilkes University to a 19-13 win over cross-town rival King's College Tuesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes moves to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in Freedom play following the victory. The win also guarantees a playoff berth for the Lady Colonels, the first trip to the Freedom Conference postseason tournament in the program's history.
 
King's opened the game with a fury of goals scoring the contests first five tallies to take a 5-0 lead with 26:34 on the first half clock. Wilkes responded with its first goal of the game when Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) scored on a free position at the 23:32 mark. Following another King's goal, Wilkes used a timeout to regroup and look to change momentum.
 
The Lady Colonels answered with a 10-0 spurt over the next 14 minutes of play following the crucial timeout to take an 11-6 lead. Smith scored five of her seven goals during the rally including the 100th strike of her two-year stint as a Lady Colonel. The Lady Monarchs scored two late goals to end the first half with Wilkes leading 11-8.
 
Wilkes put the game out of reach in the second half scoring five of the frames first six goals to take a 15-9 lead with 18:28 left. Ford and Smith traded goals and Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) added her second of the game during the stretch. Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) put the game out of reach late in the second half scoring twice within eight minutes to seal the 19-13 victory.
 
Smith was outstanding all game finishing with 10 points on eight shots. She went a perfect 4-for-4 on free position attempts while adding six draw controls. Ford followed with four goals and a team-high five ground balls. Brownsey also added four goals and two ground balls. Kerr and Melanie Rivera (Middletown, NY/Middletown) chipped in two goals each.
 
King's was led by Krystina Villareal's four goals while Emily Foley contributed four tallies in the loss.
 
Brittaney Costigan (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) picked up the win in net for Wilkes making seven saves. Alisa Marino suffered the loss finishing with seven saves for King's.
 
Wilkes concludes the regular season hosting Manhattanville College on Senior Day at 12:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium. If Wilkes wins, the Lady Colonel would move into the third seed in next week's playoffs barring an FDU-Florham win tonight against the Valiants.
