WILKES BASEBALL DROPS SEASON SERIES WITH MISERICORDIA; ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFFS WITH MANHATTANVILLE SWEEP OF FDU-FLORHAM
 
DALLAS, PA – The Wilkes University baseball team dropped a pair of league games at Misericordia University Saturday afternoon and paired with two Manhattanville wins over FDU-Florham have been eliminated from playoff contention. Wilkes fell 14-0 in game one before dropping a 5-1 decision in the night cap.
 
Wilkes falls to 20-15 overall and 9-12 in Freedom games. Misericordia improves to 31-8 overall and 18-3 in league contests. The Colonels finish tied at 9-12 in the Freedom with Manhattanville, but the Valiants own the tie breaker having beaten Wilkes two of three games in the season series to secure the fourth and final playoff spot in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament.
 
Wilkes accounted for just four hits in game one as Misericordia rode the fine pitching of Evan Robaczewski in the seven-inning win. Robaczewski went six innings allowing one hit while striking out four to collect the victory.
 
The Colonels only managed to put five players on base throughout the game in the loss.
 
Brandon Carling (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge Area) suffered the loss on the hill going three innings allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits. Zach Lazar (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area), Brandon Michael (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area), and Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) combined to pitch the final three innings.
 
Game two saw Wilkes take a 1-0 lead after its first at-bats when Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville), who singled earlier in the inning, scored on a Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) RBI double to right field.
 
Misericordia answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first and two more tallies in the bottom of the third to go on for the sweep.
 
Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) was solid on the mound for Wilkes in game two pitching all six innings allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out three. Will Minderjahn posted the win for the Cougars going six and one third allowing the one run on four hits striking out seven.
 
Wilkes will conclude its regular season slate Tuesday when the Colonels face the University of Scranton at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa. at 5:00 p.m.
