Steve Finkernagel Wilkes travels to Freedom rival King's tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. WILKES SOFTBALL SUFFERS PAIR OF LOSSES AT LYCOMING WEDNESDAY 4/3/2013 7:27:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES SOFTBALL SUFFERS PAIR OF LOSSES AT LYCOMING WEDNESDAY WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Wilkes University softball team was unable to muster much offense in either contest dropping a pair of games at Commonwealth Conference member Lycoming College Wednesday afternoon at the Uhangraw Complex. Wilkes fell 3-1 in game one before dropping a 5-1 decision in the second of the twin bill. Wilkes slips to 7-11 overall following the losses while Lycoming improves to 10-6 on the season. Wilkes struck first in game one as Laykin Hughes (Minersville, PA/Pottsville) helped her cause at the plate doubling to left centerfield. Dayna Finch (Milford, CT/Joseph Foran) followed with an RBI single to center scoring Hughes on the next play giving the Lady Colonels a 1-0 lead through four innings. Lycoming answered in the bottom of the fourth scoring all three of its runs in the frame. An RBI fielder's choice and two-run double plated the three winning tallies for the Warriors. Wilkes was unable to find its offense in the final three innings of play. Wilkes mustered seven hits including a 2-for-3 performance from Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood). Michelle Coyle (West Milford, PA/West Milford), Mandy Seccia (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), Hughes, Finch, and Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) each added a hit. Hughes recorded the loss in the circle going all six innings allowing the three runs on six hits striking out two. Lycoming jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two after five innings and never looked back limiting the Lady Colonels to eight hits and just one run. Wilkes garnered its lone tally in the sixth when Jessalyn Paveletz (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area) and Hoops hit back-to-back doubles. Paveletz led the offense with two hits while Katie Brown (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) finished 2-for-3 in the game. Brooke Chapin (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) received the loss going all six innings allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits striking out one Lycoming hitter. Wilkes has a quick turnaround playing tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at Freedom Conference rival King's College at the Betzler Athletic Complex in a doubleheader that was postponed in late March due to snow.
