Wilkes finishes its 2013 campaign with a 21-15 overall mark. Scranton drops to 21-18 on the year. The teams went scoreless until the third were the Colonels dropped a five-spot on the board using six hits to do its damage. Nick Craig (Springfield, PA/The Haverford School) started the rally with a single followed by a Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) base hit. Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) came through with a clutch one-run single down the left field line as Wilkes led 1-0. Skammer followed with one of his three hits tripling to left field scoring Lopresto and Schappell on the play. After an RBI double from Ruch, Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) grounded out for the second out scoring Ruch on the play. Scranton answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame using a two-run single and RBI double in the inning. Wilkes added a run in the fifth when A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) tripled to deep left field scoring Ruch who singled earlier in the inning. The Royals kept pace plating one run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Colonel lead to 6-4. Wilkes put the game out of reach in the ninth scoring three insurance runs. An RBI double from Ruch and Condo single plated two runs. Skammer scored on a wild pitch to complete the three-run frame. Mihaly received the win on the mound pitching two scoreless innings allowing just one hit. Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) was the starter going four innings allowing four runs on eight hits in the no decision. Wilkes concludes its 2013 season under first-year head coach Matt Hollod with a 21-15 overall record and fifth place finish in the Freedom Conference.
