Nick Craig posted two hits in game one at Manhattanville Saturday BASEBALL FALLS TWICE AT MANHATTANVILLE 4/6/2013 7:15:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BASEBALL FALLS TWICE AT MANHATTANVILLE PURCHASE, NY – The Wilkes University baseball team lost both games of the doubleheader 7-2 and 8-5 to Manhattanville Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference action. Wilkes stands at 11-9 overall and 3-7 in Freedom action while Manhattanville improves to 8-16 overall and 5-7 in the league. In game one, Manhattanville added a single tally in each of the first three innings before Wilkes snagged two runs back in the top of the fourth. Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) led off with a walk before Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) reached on an error. Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) then garnered two RBI's on a fielder's choice before Nick Craig (Springfield, PA/The Haverford School) singled. The Valiants grabbed three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on four consecutive base hits. Wilkes had two runners on in the top of the seventh after Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) and Dantas singled, but the Colonel bats were unable to advance them to fall 7-2 in game one. Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area), Craig, and Dantas each had two hits apiece. Brandon Michael (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) garnered the loss, allowing six runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of work. In game two, the Colonel offense struggled to get going, as the first five batters in the lineup collected all five hits. Wilkes snagged a quick lead in the top of the first after Lopresto doubled and came around to score on a Dantas sacrifice fly to center. The Valiant bats struck for five runs in the bottom of the second, one run in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth. The Colonels responded with four runs in the top of the sixth on four hits. Lopresto, Schappell, and Dantas each singled to start the inning before Ruch connected for a three run home run to left field. Tyler Schmitt (Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) absorbed the loss, allowing seven earned runs on ten hits in 4 and 1/3 innings.
