WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS SCORES 5-0 VICTORY AGAINST MT. ST. MARY'S IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

AMHERST, MA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team opened its 2013 NCAA Tournament run with a convincing 5-0 first round win over Mt. St. Mary's Friday afternoon on the campus of Amherst College.

With the win Wilkes moves to 19-2 overall while Mt. St. Mary's sees its season end at 12-1. The win marks the third time in program history that the Lady Colonels have posted a victory in the NCAA Tournament. Staking Wilkes to an early lead, Amanda Holyk (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) and Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) blanked Jill Saydlowski and Alissa Niad  at No. 3 doubles, 8-0. Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) and Anastasia English (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) followed suit with an 8-1 No. 2 doubles triumph over Emily and Jen Gregory, before Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Katie Lynn (Berwick, PA/Berwick) completed the sweep with an 8-2 decision over Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg and Jaimee Lubiewski at the top of the order.

Inching Wilkes closer, Amanda Rossi (Fogelsville, PA/Parkland) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Niad at No. 6 singles, before Kristofco put the wraps on the shutout with a 6-1, 6-1 No. 2 singles triumph over Lubniewski. Nolt held a 6-3, 1-1 edge over Murphy-Goldberg at the top of the lineup, while Lynn was in control of her No. 3 singles match-up with Emily Gregory, 6-2, 5-3. Holyk won her first set against Jen Gregory, 6-1, while English was ahead of Saydlowski, 6-2, 4-1 at No. 5 singles.
