WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS RUN AT LOCK HAVEN INVITATIONAL

LOCK HAVEN , PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Lock Haven Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Colonel men finished 14th of 15 teams, while the Lady Colonels came in 15th of 16 squads.

In the men's 8k race, Daniel Lykens (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) led the way with the fifth fastest time in school history finishing at 29:06 (138th). Tyler Sutton (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) ran his personal best time, ranking sixth in school history with a time of 29:09 (142nd). Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) was the third top finisher for Wilkes crossing the line at 29:10, good for seventh all-time in the 8k at Wilkes. Matt Buono finished with his personal best coming in at 29:21 (11th in school history).

Host Lock Haven took the men's team championship scoring 21 total points. Wilkes finished with 428 total team points in the 244-participant race.

For the Wilkes women, Rachel Quinn (Goshen, NY/Goshen) led the way with a time of 25:36 for 135th place. It marked Quinn's first race of the year finishing 11th on the school's all-time list in the 6k race in the process. Vianna Crowley finished with a personal best time of 25:58 for 145th place. Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) (25:59/146th) and Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) (26:01/148th) rounded out the top four Lady Colonel finishers in the 231-participant race.

Marywood University took top honors in the women's race finishing with 87 team points, Wilkes finished with 457 team points.

Both Wilkes teams return to the course Saturday, October 5 when they compete at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University starting at 10:30 a.m.
