Steve Finkernagel Wilkes concludes play at the Scranton Invitational Sunday WILKES MEN’S TENNIS FINISHES DAY ONE OF SCRANTON INVITATIONAL 9/28/2013 6:44:00 PM (Complete Results) WILKES MEN'S TENNIS FINISHES DAY ONE OF SCRANTON INVITATIONAL SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team started the Scranton Invitational with a strong showing on day one of competition sending eight singles players and three doubles teams to the semifinal round Saturday afternoon. In singles bracket "A" play, Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) scored a 6-2, 6-1 win over Moravian's Mike Antonis to reach the semifinals. Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) also was a winner in the quarterfinals taking his match 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (12-10). In singles bracket "B" play, Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Moravian's Giovanni Lombardi in his quarterfinal match. Dominic Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) joined Kranz in the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Moravian's Matt Tuorto. In other singles action, Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield), Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), Connor Peckham (Warminster, PA/Central Bucks East), and Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) all were winners in quarterfinal play. In doubles competition, the duo of Wilson/Makos scored an 8-6 victory to reach the semifinals, while the Parfianowicz brothers teamed for an 8-1 win in the other quarterfinal. Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) and Kranz were 8-1 winners over Moravian's Antonis/Lombardi in the second doubles bracket.
