Steve Finkernagel Steven Wilson captured the "A" singles championship at the Scranton Invitational Sunday WILKES MEN’S TENNIS CLAIMS ONE SINGLES TITLE AT SCRANTON INVITATIONAL 9/29/2013 6:02:00 PM (Complete Results) WILKES MEN'S TENNIS CLAIMS ONE SINGLES TITLE AT SCRANTON INVITATIONAL SCRANTON, PA – Junior Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) captured the "A" singles bracket championship to lead Wilkes University on day two of the University of Scranton Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Wilson was the lone Wilkes champion as only the "A" singles bracket was played through the finals. Wilson scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over Scranton's David Teres in the semifinals before posting a 6-2, 6-3 victory over teammate Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) in the finals. In the "B" singles bracket, Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) made his way to the finals with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 decision over Jake Rohring of King's. Kranz would lose in the finals 6-2, 6-2 to Tony Bevevino of King's. The semifinals of the "C" singles bracket was full of Colonels as Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) defeated teammate Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) 6-7 (10-12), 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). In the other semifinal, Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) posted a 6-4, 6-4 straight set winner over Connor Peckham (Warminster, PA/Central Bucks East). The final was not played through in the bracket. Both doubles flights were also not played through the finals. The brother duo of Dominic and Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) scored an 8-3 win over King's George Parkhurts and Stephen Brand in the one semifinal, while Makos/Wilson defeated Bevevino/Rohring 9-8 (7-2) in the other semifinal match. Two Wilkes pairs scored wins in the doubles "B" bracket as the combinations of Kranz/Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) and Appello/Lefkandinos were both winners by scores of 8-3 and 8-6 respectively. Wilkes returns to action October 12 and 13 when the Colonels compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Print Friendly Version
