Wilkes meets King's for the first time this season Wednesday at the Scandlon Gymnasium WILKES MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SET FOR CROSS-TOWN BATTLE WITH KING’S 1/21/2014 6:18:00 PM WILKES MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SET FOR CROSS-TOWN BATTLE WITH KING'S WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams return to conference play Wednesday evening as both squads make the short trip down river street to take on rival King's College at the Scandlon Gymnasium. The women's game will tip at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m. Fans can follow the action through live stats and live audio at the links below. Live Stats (women's game) Live Stats (men's game) Live Audio (ESPN Williamsport: Zach Barlage, play-by-play) The Colonel men (6-8 overall, 1-3 Freedom) will look to snap a two-game conference losing skid, while the Lady Colonels (3-11 overall, 0-4 Freedom) are looking to build off their two point win over Penn State Hazleton on Monday, and pick up their first conference victory of the season. The men's team continues to display equal distribution of the basketball and scoring as four player's average nearly double figures. Senior Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West), who is battling through an injury, continues to lead the team in scoring with 13.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per-game.Sophomore Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) is second on the team in scoring with 13.6 points per-game.Wizar has also drilled a team-high 38 three-pointers which is good for first in the entire conference. Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) continues to make shots averaging 9.9 points-per game while also contributing on the glass with 4.9 boards per-game. Stravinski is second on the team with 33 three-pointers made. Big man Nic Wilkins (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) continues to improve his game and is now averaging 9.1 points and 5.9 boards per-game. The Colonels have been battling conference foes very tough and have lost the last two games by a mere nine points. The King's men (9-6 overall, 2-2 Freedom) are riding a four-game winning streak having won their last two conference games at DeSales and against Eastern. Kyle Hammonds leads the Freedom Conference in scoring with 19.7 points per-game. Hammonds also averages 4.9 boards per-game and has hit a team-high 36 three-pointers. He is shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from downtown. Joe Caffrey is the second leading scorer for the Monarchs, chipping in with 13.8 points per-game. Caffrey leads the team in assists with 3.5 a game while grabbing 4.9 rebounds. The Monarchs are averaging 77.9 points on offense and allowing opponents to score 70.1 points per-game. The Lady Colonels are looking to pick up their first conference win of the season as Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) and company look to build off of a 53-51 comeback win over PSU-Hazleton on Monday evening. Stambone is the leading scorer for the Lady Colonels as she pours in 19.9 points per-game, while also pulling down 4.1 rebounds from her guard position. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) continues to be a force to handle from her forward position averaging close to a double-double. Brown is scoring 12.0 points per-game while nabbing a team high 9.5 boards. Brown's rugged defensive play continues to lead the Lady Colonels on defense as she has a team-high 33 steals to go along with 25 blocks. Ginny Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South) and Ellen Rich (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) have provided solid depth in the frontcourt. Edwards is second on the team with 7.3 rebounds per-game, while Rich is third with 6.6 boards per-game. Rich also leads the team with 41 blocked shots. The Lady Monarchs (4-11 overall, 0-4 Freedom) are looking to snap a four-game losing skid while also picking up their first conference win of the season. Three Lady Monarchs score in double-figures with Marissa Manning paving the way with 14.4 points per-game. Manning is second on the team averaging 7.5 rebounds per-game. Kayla Feairheller pours in 12.3 points per-game, good for second on the team in scoring. Feairheller also gets it done on the glass as she pulls down 5.4 boards per-game. Jennifer Fabian is third on the team in scoring with 10.0 points per-game. Fabian leads the team on the glass nabbing 8.7 boards per-game, while also leading the team in blocked shots with 39.
