Wilkes first singles title came at No. 2 when top seeded Madison Salmon (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) recorded a 7-5, 6-1 victory over teammate Julia Baranov (Huntingdon Valley, PA/William Tennent) in the finals. Both posted straight set wins in the semifinals to reach the title match. It marked the first individual title for Salmon who fell to teammate Anastasia English (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) in the finals of the No. 5 singles flight last season. Taylor Hoffmann (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland) captured her first singles individual crown at No. 4 recording a 7-6(7), 6-3 win in the finals over Rebecca Perkins of Alvernia giving Wilkes its second singles flight. At No. 6 singles, Wilkes was guaranteed a winner as Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) and Dana Schneider (Plains, PA/Coughlin) met in the finals after straight set wins in semifinal play. Hewison prevailed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory to capture her first singles crown. Wilkes final singles title came at No. 7 where Lauren West (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alvernia's Emily Thek in the finals. In doubles competition, the duo of English/Hoffmann cruised to the No. 2 title with an 8-2 win over Lebanon Valley's Mary Kate Lemon and Nicole Kracum. At No. 3 pairs, Salmon and Hewison added to their singles title with an 8-1 victory to capture the crown over Alvernia's Perkins/Schwenk. Since 2006, head coach Chris Leicht has helped lead the squad to 36 singles titles and 18 doubles championships, the most of any school in the MAC over the eight-year span. The event concludes the fall campaign for the Lady Colonels. Wilkes opens the spring schedule in early March when it travels to Hilton Head, South Carolina for its annual spring break trip.Print Friendly Version
