WILKES MEN’S XC FINISHES 8TH AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS 11/1/2014 4:41:00 PM (Team Results)WILKES MEN'S XC FINISHES 8TH AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS LEBANON, PA – The Wilkes University men's cross country team finished eighth at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday at the Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon. The Colonels finished with 249 team points in the 8k race of 133 runners. Jordan Lindley (Hunlock Creek, PA/Lake Lehman) fnished with the second fastest time in school history at 28:20 for 42nd place. Tyler Sutton (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) claimed the third best time in program history in the race finishing at 28:32 for 46th place. Martin Tolbert (York, PA/William Penn) also ran a personal-best time of 28:45, good for sixth overall in the 8k in school history and 47th in the MAC Championship event. No. 30 Widener University claimed its second-straight, and third overall, MAC title. The Pride's sophomore Ernie Pitone won the men's race by 12 seconds. Widener had ten runners finish in the top-20 to earn All-MAC honors. The Pride scored 27 points with the individual champion, third, fourth, ninth and 10th-place finishers. Messiah finished runner-up with 60 points. The Falcons had four runners finish in the top-20, including the fifth- and sixth-place finishers.DeSales finished in third with 83 points and the individual runner-up. Pitone entered the 2014 MAC Men's Cross Country Championship with a 2013 conference championship runner-up finish and the 2013 MAC Rookie of the Year award already to his credit. On Saturday, the sophomore bettered that feat by winning this year's conference championship race by 12 seconds over DeSales' senior Nate Noll. Pitone crossed the finish line in a time of 25:00.66 to earn the individual title and the 2014 MAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year award. Noll, who won the same Runner of the Year award in 2012 as a sophomore, finished the race in a time of 25:12.27.The 2013 individual champion, Widener senior Chris Garrity, finished the race in third in a time of 25:18.35. Teammate Will McDermott, a sophomore, finished fourth in a time of 25:29.17. Messiah's junior Tyler Sensenig took fifth in a time of 25:52.75, while fellow Falcon junior Jared Schatz finished sixth in a time of 26:01.27. King's freshman Ben Siegel was the top finishing newcomer, crossing the finish line in a time of 26:48.64 for 18th place. Siegel was award the 2014 MACMen's Cross Country Rookie of the Year award.
