Wilkes Basketball Squads Host Manhattanville Saturday in Freedom Doubleheader
 
WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams host Manhattanville College Saturday in a Freedom Conference doubleheader at the Marts Center.

The Wilkes women enter the game with a 3-2 overall record standing 0-1 in league play after an 88-49 loss at Eastern University on Wednesday night. The Lady Colonels are led by the Freedom Conference's second leading scorer Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) who averages 17.8 points with 11 three-pointers made this season. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) follows with 11.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per-game. Chelsea Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) is off to a good start to her sophomore season averaging 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds through five games played.
 
As a team, Wilkes is averaging 67.6 points per-game while allowing 66.6 points per-contest. Wilkes fell to Manhattanville both times in the teams' season series last year.
 
The Manhattanville women come into the contest with a 4-2 overall record, going 0-1 in Freedom games following a 67-54 defeat against DeSales University Wednesday night. The Valiants boast the conference's leading scorer and rebounder Alyson Caiazzo who averages 19.3 points and 15.5 rebounds per-game. Bri Pabon chips in 16.3 points and 3.8 assists per-game from her point guard position.

The Colonel men (5-1, 1-0 Freedom) look to extend their five-game winning streaking after holding onto a 78-76 victory at Eastern Wednesday night to open Freedom Conference play. Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) leads the Wilkes offensive attack averaging 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in six games played. Stravinski is shooting a blistering 44.4 percent from behind the arc connecting on a team-best 24 three-pointers. Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) follows with 16.5 points and 2.3 assists per-game, while rookie forward Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) contributes 12.2 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds.
 
Wilkes averages 76.8 points per-game on offense, while allowing 69.6 points per-contest on the defensive end.
 
The Manhattanville men enter the league matchup with a 4-4 overall mark standing 1-0 in conference play after posting an impressive 55-48 win over DeSales on Wednesday night. Juan Camacho tops the squad averaging 15.9 points and 4.5 rebounds through eight games played. Anthony Maestre is also off to a fast start scoring 14.0 points and grabbing 2.9 rebounds per-game for the Valiants.
 
The Valiants average 61.5 points per-game while yielding 68.3 points per-contest. Last season the two teams split the season series with each winning on its home court.
