Wilkes slips to 7-11 overall and 2-6 in league games following the road defeat. Delaware Valley improves to 11-8 overall and remains atop the Freedom Conference at 6-2. The game was a see-saw battle throughout the first half as neither team led by more than five points. A three-pointer from Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) and one of two free throws from Jeremy Hartman (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Regional) put the Colonels down one, 27-26 at the break. Both teams struggled shooting from the floor including from long range. Wilkes managed just three treys while holding Delaware Valley to 1-of-10 shooting from behind the arc. The second half proved different for the host Aggies. After its first miss from deep, Delaware Valley connected on 8-for-12 from three-point range. Arnold canned four of the eight from deep with his third of the half pushing the lead to 16 at 53-37 with 8:56 left. The Aggie lead grew to as many as 21 points late in the frame as the hot shooting in the second stanza carried the hosts to an important Freedom Conference victory. Stravinski led the Colonels with 13 points and three rebounds. Tyler Jackson (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) came off the bench to add 10 points, while Jimmy Brackett posted eight tallies and eight rebounds in the loss. Arnold finished 9-for-16 from the field and 5-for-10 from long range on way to his 25 points. Zach Sly followed with 12 points and five rebounds, while Nick Sullivan drilled three three-pointers finishing with 11 points. Wilkes held a 43-36 rebound advantage including 18 on the offensive end. Wilkes continues its road stretch of Freedom Conference play Wednesday traveling to local rival Misericordia University for a matchup at 8:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
