WILKES MEN'S TENNIS BEGINS SPRING CAMPAIGN AT DREW INVITATIONAL
 
MADISON, NJ – The defending Freedom Conference champion Wilkes University men's tennis team began its 2014 spring campaign competing in the Drew University Ranger Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
 
The tournament featured eight singles flights and four doubles flights in a round robin format. Participating teams included host Drew, Wilkes, Chestnut Hill, and Roger Williams.
 
At No. 1 singles, Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) was a two-time winner beating Adam Clark of Drew 6-0, 6-0 and Zach Bussiere of Roger Williams 6-3, 6-3.
 
Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) posted a 2-1 record at No. 2 singles with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win over Drew's Tommy Butschi then taking a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Roger Williams' Taylor Webster. Dominic Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) and Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) each picked up wins at No. 3 singles as Parfianowicz went 7-6(3), 6-3 over Eric Laboissonniere of Roger Williams and Kranz recording a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vinny Mahon of Drew. Kranz also recorded a win at No. 4 singles in three sets.
 
Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy), Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North), Adam Leftkandinos, Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), Brian Murray (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) and Collin Strunk (Blakeslee, PA/Pocono Mountain West) each posted singles wins for Wilkes who accounted for 15 in the tournament.
 
In doubles competition, the Parfianowicz brothers scored an 8-0 win over Drew's pair of Mahon/Clark in No. 1 pairs. Wilson/Appello also claimed a win at first pairs with an 8-5 victory over Roger Williams' Webster/Swanson.
 
At No. 2 doubles, Kranz/Blachowski and Appello/Leftkandinos each scored wins with scores of 8-6 and 8-5 respectively. Strunk/Murray posted an 8-1 victory at No. 4 doubles to round out the Wilkes pair wins.
 
Wilkes begins its annual spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Monday, March 3 and will compete in four matches during the week.
