EDWARDSVILLE – Junior Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) scored seven goals and assisted on three others to lead Wilkes University to an 18-11 victory over SUNY Canton Wednesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes remains unbeaten at 4-0 on the year following the win. Canton drops to 0-2 overall on the young season.
 
Wilkes continued its dominance in the first half outscoring Canton 14-6 in the frame. Smith began the scoring tear with an unassisted tally just :35 into the game. Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) added back-to-back goals over the next four minutes to extend the advantage to 3-0.
 
Canton answered back with a pair of goals at the 24:27 and 23:05 mark to cut the deficit to 3-2. Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored twice and another Smith strike kept the Lady Colonels ahead 6-3 with 14:13 left in the half. After three Canton goals brought the Kangaroos to within one at 7-6, Wilkes used a 7-0 scoring run including two goals each from Brownsey, Smith and Keer to take an eight point lead to the break.
 
Smith scored three of the four Wilkes goals in the second half to seal the non-conference victory for the Lady Colonels.
 
Morgan Galluzzo (New London, NH/Kearsarge Regional) recorded her fourth win in net for Wilkes finishing with six saves. Becca Kieffer suffered the loss in goal for Canton making 12 saves.
 
Wilkes held a commanding 42-22 shot advantage while picking up 21 draw controls to Canton's 10.
 
Smith was nearly unstoppable in the Lady Colonels attacking end finishing with a season-high ten points. Kerr added six goals and one assist, while Brownsey chipped in four goals and one helper. Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) contributed one goal and two assists in the win.
 
Wilkes continues its home stretch Saturday hosting Wells College at 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
