Myzar Mendoza ended his Colonels career going 1-2 at the NCAA Championships Friday HARTENSTINE MOVES INTO SEMIFINALS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS; DAY ONE RECAP 3/14/2014 10:29:00 PM HARTENSTINE MOVES INTO SEMIFINALS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS; DAY ONE RECAP CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Mark Hartenstine (Easton, PA/Easton) scored a pair of decision wins to move into the semifinals leading six Colonels at the NCAA Championships Friday night in the US Cellular Center. Hartenstine, making his second consecutive trip to nationals at 149-pounds, opened the tournament with a 7-1 decision win over Ryan Seidler of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He then moved to 40-1 on the year with a hard-fought 1-0 decision victory over sixth seeded Jacob Long of Concordia-Moorhead. Hartenstine will face second seeded Ryan Prater of Elmhurst in one of the semifinals tomorrow wrestling for a spot in the national championship bout. Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) (133-pounds) opened his first national tournament trip with a 10-1 major decision win over Nathaniel Giorgio of Coast Guard in the first round. Mendoza dropped his quarterfinal matchup against the top seed Kenny Anderson of Wartburg 2-1 before falling 9-2 against Silas Murray of Rhode Island College in the consolation round concluding his tournament run. Mendoza finishes his Wilkes career with a 109-32 record. Kyle Diesel (Westtown, NY/Minisink Valley), making his first trip to the NCAA's at 174-pounds, dropped his opening match against top-seeded Landon Williams of Wartburg 5-1. He followed that up with a 4-2 victory over Elizabethtown's William Hermann before concluding the tournament with a 2-1 loss against the second seed Ethan Ball of Coe College. Diesel finishes his first year in the Navy and Gold with a 25-14 record. Kris Krawchuk (Slatington, PA/Northern Lehigh), the reigning national finalist at 157-pounds, dropped his opening match against top-seeded Nazar Kulchytskyy of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 18-4. Krawchuk then concluded his tournament with a 9-4 decision loss against Steven DeWitt of Loras. Krawchuk finishes his Colonel career with a 80-30 record earning All-American status last season as a junior. At 197-pounds, Eric Bach (Newton, NJ/Kittatiny) fell 14-4 to Coe College's Donnie Horner in his opening match. Bach's tournament concluded with a 12-3 major decision loss against Ursinus' Christian Psomas. Bach finishes his junior season with a 18-10 record, making his first trip to the national tournament this season. William Fletcher (Ottsville, PA/Palisades), making his second straight trip to the national tournament, suffered a 4-0 loss against Zack Gibson of St. Olaf in his opening round match. Fletcher concluded his tournament with a 3-1 sudden victory defeat against Cory Becker of Coe College. Fletcher finishes his Colonel career with a 65-40 record and a two-time NCAA qualifier in his three years in the Navy and Gold.
