Wilkes took game one 10-2 before posting a 6-4 victory in the second game of the twin bill. Wilkes moves to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in league play following the sweep. DVC drops to 6-6 overall, 0-4 in Freedom games. The Wilkes offense woke up in a big way mid-way through game one as the Colonels scored five runs in the fourth and five more times in the sixth on way to the eight-run win. Up 1-0, Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) added to the Wilkes lead in the fourth when he doubled home Ruch. Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) connected on an RBI single and Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) followed with another RBI base hit to extend the advantage to 5-0. After DVC added two runs in the fifth, Schappell added another RBI hit (double) and Ruch drilled a three-run home run over the newly-installed blue monster in left field to seal the win in the sixth. Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) picked up the complete game win on the mound for Wilkes allowing the two runs on six hits striking out a season-high eight batters. Matthew Reese (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro), Schappell, Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) and Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) each added two hits to go along with Ruch's 3-for-4 performance (three RBI's). Wilkes opened game two scoring one run in the first when Marino drew a bases-loaded free pass. DVC grabbed its first lead of the afternoon scoring two runs in the third taking a 2-1 lead. The Colonels used a five-run fourth to answer back. Schappell hit a two-run single followed by another two-run base hit from Ruch. Marino capped the inning with an RBI single down the right field line scoring Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) as Wilkes led 6-2 through five. DVC added two runs in the sixth, but Matt Kaster (Traben-Trabach, Germany/Crestwood) threw a scoreless seventh to record his second save of the season and seal the conference sweep. Ruch and Scappell each finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's to lead the Wilkes offense. Chris Nixon (Swoyersville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) pitched a scoreless fourth and fifth to post the win.
