WILKES SOFTBALL SUFFERS PAIR OF LOSSES AGAINST NEW PALTZ
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University softball team dropped a pair of games against visiting SUNY New Paltz Sunday at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Wilkes fell 10-1 in five innings in game one before dropping a 10-2 decision in seven innings in game two.
 
Wilkes slips to 1-9 overall following the losses, while New Paltz improves its record to 3-7 on the season after the wins.
 
New Paltz used 12 hits to score ten runs over five innings in the game one victory. Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) plated the lone Lady Colonels run singling home Makenna Rushannon (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1. New Paltz scored three times in the second and four in the third to open an 8-1 lead after three. A two-out, two-run double in fifth pushed the lead to nine ending the game in the fifth.
 
Wilkes managed just four hits in the game led by Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley)'s 2-for-2 performance. Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) suffered the loss in the circle going two and one-third allowing seven hits and eight runs (six earned).
 
New Paltz continued to use hot bats in game two jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the fifth. Wilkes plated its two runs in the bottom half of the frame when Cara McCleaf reached on a fielder's choice and two Lady Colonel runners crossed the plate on a throwing error by the third basemen on the play.
 
Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) led the Wilkes offense in game two going 2-for-3 with two singles. Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) recorded the loss in the circle going all seven innings allowing 16 hits and ten runs (seven earned).
 
Wilkes returns to play Tuesday hosting Lebanon Valley College at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
