WILKES SOFTBALL OPENS SEASON WITH PAIR OF LOSSES AGAINST LYNCHBURG
 
SALISBURY, MD – The Wilkes University softball team opened its 2014 campaign with a pair of losses against national power Lynchburg College Friday morning in a doubleheader held at Salisbury University.
 
Wilkes fell 22-1 in five innings in game one before dropping a 12-2 decision in five innings in the second game of the twin bill.
 
In game one, Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) accounted for the lone Wilkes run when she led-off the top of the first with a home run in her first at-bat of the season.  
 
Lynchburg scored three runs in the first, five in the second and three more times in the third to open a 11-1 lead through three innings of play. The Hornets added an 11-run fourth before the game ended in the fifth.
 
Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) suffered the loss in the circle going three innings allowing 11 runs on 13 hits. Ashley Eden (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) made her first collegiate appearance in relief going one inning allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
 
Lynchburg jumped out to another big lead in game two leading 12-0 through four innings of play. Bixler connected on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to ten, but the offense struggled throughout managing only four hits in the game.
 
Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) pitched her first collegiate game going four innings allowing nine earned runs on 16 hits. Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) pitched one scoreless inning in the fifth.
 
Wilkes concludes its trip to Maryland Saturday playing the host Salisbury in a doubleheader starting at 9:00 a.m.
