With the win Wilkes goes to 10-2 on the season, with their 10 wins tying the single season record for most wins in a season that was set last year. Old Westbury falls to 3-12 on the season. Wilkes jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to two goals from Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon), and single goals from Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka), Ally Bicskei (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township), Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) and Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown). Old Westbury scored a goal to make it 6-1 before Ford, Kerr and Brownsey all scored unassisted goals extending the Lady Colonels lead to 9-1. The two teams would go on to exchange goals for the remainder of the half as Wilkes led at the break 13-5. Old Westbury scored the opening two goals of the second half before Brownsey notched her fourth goal of the game to put Wilkes up 14-7. A pair of Old Westbury goals just :14 seconds apart trimmed Wilkes' lead to 14-9 with 23:04 remaining in the game. Brownsey once again countered with her fifth goal of the game to give Wilkes a six-goal advantage at 15-9. Old Westbury responded with a goal to cut the lead to five before Wilkes ran off five consecutive goals to stretch the lead to 20-10. Ford and Brownsey both scored two of the goals with Kerr picking up the other goal during the 5-0 run. With the score 21-11 Old Westbury scored a goal with one second remaining to end the scoring at 21-12. Wilkes held a comfortable 44-23 advantage in shots including 39 on goal. Old Westbury turned the ball over 37 times compared to Wilkes' 25 and Wilkes was nearly perfect in clears as they converted 20-out-of-21 attempts. Brownsey scored seven goals for the Lady Colonels while Ford added four goals of her own and an assist. Kerr notched five goals on eleven shots giving her 47 goals for the season tied with Brownsey. Morgan Galluzzo (New London, NH/Kearsarge Regional) made six saves in goal for the Lady Colonels. Wilkes heads to the Easter break this week and will return to action on April 23rd when they host Freedom Conference rival Misericordia University at 5:30 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.Print Friendly Version
