WILKES BASEBALL RALLIES FOR 10-9 WIN OVER FDU-FLORHAM
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Pinch hitter Alex Kramer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East)'s slow grounder to third base scored pinch runner Eric Hauer (Wapwallopen, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area) in the bottom of the ninth to lift Wilkes University to a 10-9 comeback win over visiting FDU-Florham Friday afternoon at Artillery Park.
 
Wilkes moves to 10-16 overall and 5-11 in Freedom games following the win.
 
A solo home run and two-run shot in the top of the second gave FDU-Florham a 3-0 lead. Wilkes answered with one run in the bottom of the frame when Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) doubled down the left field line scoring Joshua Slocum (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) who walked to lead-off the inning.
 
Leaf added his second RBI double in the fourth bringing Wilkes to within one at 3-2. A sacrifice fly from Zac Berg plated Joshua Slocum (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) tying the game and one batter later Deep Patel (Dallas, PA/Dallas) gave the Colonels their first lead with an RBI single to right field scoring Leaf.
 
Back-to-back-to-back solo home runs in the fifth put FDU-Florham back in the lead up 6-4. The Devils added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to lead 7-4 through five innings.
 
After FDU-Florham added two more runs in the seventh, Wilkes cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) connected on an RBI double and Slocum followed with an RBI single to right field to bring Wilkes to within two, 9-7. Leaf grounded out to second base to secure his third RBI of the game moving Wilkes to within one, 9-8.
 
Wilkes started the ninth with back-to-back singles from Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) and Ruch. An error on a bunt attempt from Slocum brought Herbst home tying the game at 9-9. Kramer's slow grounder to third base plated pinch runner Hauer for the game-winning run for Wilkes.
 
Matt Kaster (Traben-Trabach, Germany/Crestwood) recorded the win for Wilkes pitching a scoreless ninth striking out the side after allowing a pair of walks. Bobby Bray suffered the loss pitching the ninth for FDU-Florham. Ruch led the Wilkes offense finishing 4-for-5 with one RBI.
 
Both teams resume the series tomorrow (Saturday) playing a doubleheader in Madison, NJ at 1:00 p.m.
