READING, PA – Trailing 7-3 entering the seventh inning, visiting Wilkes University scored four runs in the frame followed by the game-winning tally in the eighth to rally past Penn State Berks 8-7 Monday afternoon in a nine-inning non-conference contest.
 
With the win Wilkes improves to 11-18 overall while Penn State Berks drops to 11-14 on the season.
 
Johnny Jan Jr. (Germantown, MD/Northwest) put Wilkes on the board singling home James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono) in the top of the first. Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) followed with an RBI single to left field to plate the Colonels second run of the inning.
 
The Colonels added another run in the second as Jan Jr. added his second straight RBI hit, this time a single to center field scoring Deep Patel (Dallas, PA/Dallas) on the play as Wilkes led 3-0.
 
Penn State Berks responded with two runs in the bottom of the second, one run in the third and four runs in the fourth to take a 7-3 lead into the seventh inning.
 
From there, Jan Jr. posted his third RBI hit of the game singling to right center scoring Patel and Eric Hauer (Wapwallopen, PA/Greater Nanticoke Area). Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) connected on an RBI single and Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) followed with an RBI hit of his own tying the game at 7-7 in the four-run frame.
 
Wilkes made the comeback complete in the eighth when Patel flied out to right field scoring Joshua Slocum (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) from third on the sacrifice fly.
 
Matt Kaster (Traben-Trabach, Germany/Crestwood) entered in the ninth to close out the victory recording his fourth save of the season throwing a scoreless frame.
 
Jan Jr. finished 3-for-5 with a career-best four RBI's in the win. Pisanchyn, Ruch and Alex Kramer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) each added two hits. Patel scored two runs while providing the RBI fly out for the game-winner.
 
Patrick Condo (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) went five innings allowing five hits and two unearned runs to post the victory on the hill.
 
Wilkes returns to Artillery Park tomorrow (Tuesday) hosting local rival the University of Scranton at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference nine-inning affair.
