Steve Finkernagel The Lady Colonels will host Misericordia Wednesday evening in the Freedom Conference Semi-finals FORD SCORES 200TH CAREER GOAL AS LADY COLONELS LACROSSE CRUISE PAST EASTERN 21-10 4/26/2014 6:21:00 PM Box Score FORD SCORES 200TH CAREER GOAL AS LADY COLONELS LACROSSE CRUISE PAST EASTERN 21-10 EDWARDSVILLE, PA -- Wilkes cruised to a 21-10 win on Senior Day against Eastern University as the Lady Colonels won their 12th game of the season and clinched a home Freedom Conference playoff game versus Misericordia on Wednesday evening. Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored the first two goals for Wilkes while Tori Kerr (Beacon, NY/Beacon) increased Wilkes' lead to 4-0 eight minutes into the game. With the score 5-1, Senior Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) scored her 200th career goal off of a nice feed from Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) to put Wilkes up 6-1. Smith scored the next three goals with Ford assisting on two of the goals to give Wilkes a 9-3 lead. An own goal gave Wilkes a 10-3 lead before Moriah Bourk scored for Eastern to make it 10-4. Wilkes responded with three straight goals and Smith scored her fifth goal of the half with 1:29 to go to increase the Lady Colonels lead to 14-5. Ford scored the first goal of the second half before Eastern went on a 3-0 run thanks in part to two goals from Shannon Wilcox and a goal from Angalena Malavenda. With the lead at seven goals Wilkes used a 5-0 run to break the game open at 20-8. Sara Gilbert (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), Brownsey (2), Ford and Smith were the five goal scorers during the big run. Kerr scored the final goal of the game with 5:21 to go giving Wilkes the 21-10 final advantage. The Navy and Gold dominated the shooting stats putting 44 total shots up with 39 of them on goal. Eastern had 21 shots for the game and 18 on net. Wilkes won the draw controls 21-12 and ground balls 26-19. Ford and Smith both had eight-point games. Smith had six goals and two assists while Ford had four goals and four assists. Brownsey scored six points on four goals and two assists. Kerr finished with five goals and Gilbert had a goal and three assists. Morgan Galluzzo (New London, NH/Kearsarge Regional) allowed 10 goals and made six saves in picking up her 12th win of the season. With the win and coupled with FDU-Florham losing at Arcadia the Lady Colonels sealed up the #2 seed for the Freedom Conference playoffs based on tie-breaking rules. The Freedom Conference semi-final game will take place on Wednesday against rival Misericordia University at Schmidt Stadium. Time of the game has not been set.Print Friendly Version
