Steve Finkernagel Marcoux scored a career high three goals in the Lady Colonels Freedom Conference Championship game against Arcadia LADY COLONELS LACROSSE FALLS IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP; FINISH SEASON 13-3, BEST RECORD IN PROGRAM HISTORY 5/3/2014 9:02:00 PM Box Score LADY COLONELS LACROSSE FALLS IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP; FINISH SEASON 13-3, BEST RECORD IN PROGRAM HISTORY GLENSIDE, PA – The Lady Colonels playing in their first ever Freedom Conference Championship game were unable to make up a seven goal halftime deficit as the #1 seeded Arcadia Knights won their first ever Freedom Conference Championship 17-13.Arcadia 18-1 will now await a NCAA Tournament bid while Wilkes concludes their season at 13-3.Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) and Katherine Marcoux (Bow, NH/Bow) scored goals :22 seconds apart as they led the Knight early 2-0. Arcadia scored three consecutive goals to give them a 3-2 advantage with 18:33 to go in the half. Madeleine Brownsey (Glenside, PA/St. Basil Academy) tied the game at 3-3 when she scored unassisted at the 17:00 minute mark. With the game tied at three the Knights went on a 7-0 run carrying a 10-3 lead into halftime. Sara Volk-Perez, Adeline Bellesheim and Dawn Faranetta all scored two goals apiece during the run.Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) scored two quick goals at the start of the second half to trim the lead to 10-5. Arcadia responded back with a pair of goals to cushion their lead back to 12-5. Marcoux scored her second of the game for the Navy and Gold to make it a 12-6 game with 20:16 remaining in the second half. Back-to-back goals for the Knights gave Arcadia an eight goal advantage at 14-6 their largest lead of the game. After the two teams traded goals, Wilkes ran off three in-a-row as Sara Gilbert (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), Ford and Marcoux tallied goals, trimming the lead to 15-10. Arcadia stymied the Lady Colonels comeback with two goals a minute apart to give them a 17-10 lead with 5:04 to play in the game. Ford, Smith and Brownsey all scored goals in the waning minutes of the game, but the time ran out on Wilkes' comeback as they fell by the final score of 17-13.Arcadia held a slight 28-25 advantage in shots and forced 25 Wilkes turnovers compared to their 21. In her last game as a Lady Colonel, Ford led the team with six points (3 G, 3 A). Smith chimed in with a four point effort (3 G, 1 A) and Marcoux scored a season high three goals.The Lady Colonels enjoyed their most successful season ever and reached the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
