Wilkes Hoops Teams Travel to DVC Saturday for Key Freedom Doubleheader
 
WILKES-BARRE – With the Freedom Conference slate beginning to heat up, both the men's and women's basketball teams at Wilkes look to continue their trek toward postseason berths on Saturday when the squads travel to Doylestown, Pa. for a matchup with Delaware Valley College.
 
The women's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the men's contest to follow at 3:00 p.m.

The Wilkes women stand 6-5 overall and 2-1 in league games after an impressive 77-64 victory at Misericordia University on Wednesday.
 
Do-everything guard Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) continues to lead the Lady Colonels on offense averaging a team-best 16.8 points canning 22 three-pointers on the season. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) follows with 11.7 points and 8.2 rebounds, while Cara Basile (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) adds 9.7 points and 5.4 boards per-contest. Chelsea Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) notches 7.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per-game. Smelas poured in a career-high 20 points in the win at Misericordia.
 
As a team Wilkes is averaging 67.1 points per-game while allowing 65.7 points per-contest.
 
The Delaware Valley women own a 6-8 overall record standing 1-2 in conference play after posting a 76-55 win at Manhattanville College on Wednesday.
 
Eireann Anastasi tops the Aggies averaging 16.1 points and 3.1 rebounds drilling 20 treys on the year. Brenna Coll follows with 15.9 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per-game. Brittany Wood is Delaware Valley's top outside threat making a team-best 24 three-pointers on the season.
 
Delaware Valley averages 65.4 points per-game while yielding 62.5 points per-contest through 14 games.
 
The Aggies swept Wilkes last season in the teams' season series meetings.
 
The Wilkes men looks to bounce back after a tough conference road loss at Misericordia on Wednesday (66-59) standing 7-7 overall and 2-1 in league games.
 
The Colonels continue to be led by the sharpshooting duo of Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) and Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona). Stravinski averages 16.2 points and 6.9 rebounds hitting 41.5 percent (49-118) of his three-point attempts on the season. Wizar follows with 15.7 points and 2.2 assists per-game notching 39 treys on 114 attempts (34.2 percent). Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) rounds out the Colonels double figure scorers averaging 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds through 14 games as a rookie.
 
Wilkes averages 73.7 points per-game on offense while allowing teams to score 71.2 points per-contest on defense.
 
The Aggie men own an 8-6 overall record and sit atop the Freedom Conference with a 3-0 mark in league games after posting a 71-69 win at Manhattanville on Wednesday.
 
Chris Moran tops the Aggies attack averaging 15.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per-game. Francis Arnold follows with 11.8 points and 4.1 assists per-game. Nick Sullivan is Delaware Valley's sharpshooter from the perimeter averaging 11.5 points on a team-high 34 made three-pointers.
 
Delaware Valley averages 74.5 points per-game while allowing teams to score 72.7 points per-contest.
 
Wilkes dropped both games against the Aggies last season in the teams' season series.
