Men's Basketball 1/27/2015 12:53:00 PM River Street Rivals Come Face-to-Face Wednesday at the Marts Center River Street Rivals Come Face-to-Face Wednesday at the Marts Center WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams take on their rival King's College Wednesday in a Freedom Conference doubleheader.The women open up at 6:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 8:00 p.m. The 2013 Freedom Conference champion Wilkes Field Hockey team will be honored with their championship rings at halftime of the men's game. Senior Elena Stambone (Jessup, PA/Valley View) continues to lead the Lady Colonels offensively averaging 16.1 points per-game. Chelsea Brown (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) averages 11.3 points and a team-high 8.4 rebounds per-game. Cara Basile (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) is averaging 8.9 points and 5.1 boards while Chelsea Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe) is averaging 8.0 points and 5.5 boards per-game. As a team the Wilkes averages 63.0 points per-game, while giving up 66.7 points per-game. Wilkes took the win in a close game last year against the Lady Monarchs, winning by one point at King's, 52-51. They swept the season series winning game two at the Marts Center 52-50 on Senior Day. King's is coming off a 62-54 win against Manhattanville College on Saturday. King's is averaging 60.2 points per-game while giving up an average of 67.5 points per-game on the defensive end of the court. Kayla Feairheller leads the Lady Monarchs with an average of 12.8 points per game. Marissa Manning has an average of 11.8 points per-game and also has one of the top rebound averages on the team with 7.4 boards per-game. Kasey Seitz has been averaging 8.3 points per-game. Olivia Hoffman is King's top rebounder with an average of 7.7 boards per-game. The Wilkes men's team snapped their three game Freedom Conference losing skid after beating FDU-Florham 86-75 on Saturday. The Colonels are averaging 73.1 points on offense and allowing opponents to score 71.9 points per-game. Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) is the leading three-point shooter in the Freedom Conference having made 56 treys on the season. Stravinski also leads the Colonels with 15.5 points per-game while also pulling down a team best 6.5 rebounds. Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) is the second leading scorer at 15.1 points per-game having made 47 three's on the season. Freshman Zachary Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) is averaging 11.2 points per-game and 6.0 rebounds a game. The King's men's team stands 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference after posting a 78-63 victory against Manhattanville on Saturday. King's is averaging 63.4 points per-game and are giving up 63.1 point per-game. Dan Rutecki is leading the Monarchs with an average of 14.5 points per game and 7.5 boards. Chris Fazzini is averaging 10.9 points per-game, followed by Dan Borner with an average of 7.2 points. Borner is also averaging 4.2 rebounds per-game. Nate Oliver is leading the team in three-pointers having made 16 three's, alongside John Fazzini who has 14. Last season the Monarchs swept the Colonels winning 72-57 on the road and 67-60 at home.
