He began the day with yet another upset win in the semifinals when he posted a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over third seed Mark Fallati, his third win over a seeded opponent in the tournament, to reach the finals.

In the finals, Murphy dropped the first set 6-3 before battling back for a 6-4 win in the second set. His magical run in the tournament finally ended in the third set when eventual champion Michael Rozenvasser of Carnegie Mellon won 6-3 to claim the title.
