Basketball to Host Cross-Town Rival King's in Senior Day Season Finale; Men Fight for Final Postseason Spot

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's and men's basketball teams will host cross-town rival King's on senior day to end their respective regular seasons, with the Colonels fighting to hold on to their current fourth seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom tournament.

The Lady Colonels enter this afternoon's contest with a 4-20 overall record, 1-12 in the MAC Freedom, following their 69-54 loss at FDU-Florham on Tuesday evening. Wilkes is led by senior guard Cara Basile (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall), who is averaging 10.9 points and 5.5 rebounds-per-game. Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) is averaging 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds-per-contest. The Lady Colonels rank third in the MAC in steals-per-game with 10.8. This will be the final home game for Cara Basile (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and Chelsea Smelas (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe), who will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
 
King's enters tonight's game with an 11-13 overall record,  4-9 in MAC Freedom play following its 77-69 loss against Delaware Valley on Wednesday evening. The Lady Monarchs are led by senior forward Jennifer Fabian, who is averaging 12.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per-game. King's is also led by junior forward Kayla Feairheller, who is averaging 10.6 points. The Lady Monarchs rank third in the MAC Freedom in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 35 percent shooting (577-1644) from the floor.
 
The Colonels enter today's contest with an 12-12 overall record, 7-6 in MAC Freedom play after defeating FDU-Florham by a 90-84 final on Tuesday evening. Wilkes is led by Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona), who is averaging 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in his senior season, ranking fifth in the MAC Freedom in points. Freshman guard Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) is averaging 14.2 points and 2.5 assists while senior guard/forward Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston) is averaging 13.9 points and 8.3 rebounds. The Colonels rank first in the MAC in three-pointers made this season, converting 251 attempts. This will be the final home game for seniors Amal Pillai (Westwood, NJ/Westwood), Devin Dunn (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell), Steve Stravinski (Pittston, PA/Pittston), and Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona), who will all be honored in a pre-game ceremony. If the Colonels win on Saturday, they will clinch their postseason spot.
 
King's enters this afternoons Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup with a 12-12 overall record (6-7 Mac Freedom) following its 74-67 overtime victory over Delaware Valley on Wednesday evening. The Monarchs are led by junior forward Dan Rutecki, who is averaging 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds-per-game. King's is also led by sophomore forward Chris Fazzini (11.8 points), senior forward/center Tom Heston (11.5 points, 7.9 rebounds), and junior guard/forward John Fazzini (10.0 points). The Monarchs rank in third the MAC Freedom in scoring margin, outscoring their opponents by an average of 2.5 points-per-game.
