HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – The Wilkes University men's tennis team swept a pair of matches Thursday to wrap up play on its spring break trip. The Colonels took its first match of the day 8-1 over Berry College before posting an 8-1 victory over Belmont Abbey in its final competition of the week-long trip.
 
Wilkes remains perfect at 11-0 on the season in dual match play.
 
Wilkes swept all three doubles matches in the win over Berry while taking five of six in singles competition. Cortney Murphy, Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta), Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) and Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) all posted straight set wins for Wilkes in singles play.
 
In the match against Belmont Abbey, Wilkes took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with wins at No. 2 and 3 pairs. The Colonels then went sox-for-six in singles play with wins from Murphy, Appello, Kranz, Lefkandinos, Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and Artyom Nabokin (Danvers, MA/Danvers).
 
Wilkes returns home for a road match at Division II Bloomsburg University on March 16 at 4:00 p.m.
