Wilkes Men's Tennis Season Ends in NCAA Tournament Second Round
MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Wilkes University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end falling 5-0 to No. 3 Middlebury College Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Proctor Tennis Courts.
Wilkes concludes its 2015-16 campaign with a school record 23 wins finishing 23-3 overall during the year. Middlebury moves to 17-2 overall and advances to the regional final against the winner of Skidmore and TCNJ on Sunday.
Middlebury, the third ranked team in all of Division III, swept all three double flights before clinching the match with two wins in singles play.
Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and
Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) fell first 8-1 at No. 3 doubles before
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and
Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) dropped an 8-2 decision at No. 2 pairs.
Dominic Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) and
Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) battled hard through their match but fell 8-6 at No. 1 in a late rally from Middlebury as the hosts led 3-0.
Middlebury then recorded wins at No. 4 and No. 6 in singles play to clinch the win and move into the regional final.
