Box Score 2 Wilkes Men's Volleyball Goes 2-0 at CCNY Tri-Match
NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Wilkes University men's volleyball team claimed two matches against Purchase College and host City College of New York Saturday afternoon in a tri-match.
Wilkes moves to 5-4 overall following the weekend sweep.
The Colonels posted a 3-2 victory over Purchase before earning a 3-1 win against CCNY.
Wilkes dropped the first set against Purchase 27-25 before tying the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 win in set two. Wilkes took its first lead of the match winning the third set 25-21 before Purchase rallied to take the fourth set 25-22 forcing a fifth and deciding set. In the fifth set Wilkes sealed the match 15-7.
John Pietrzyk (Glen Lyon, Pa./Nanticoke) led the way hitting with 11 kills, six digs and six total blocks.
Daniel Sales (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) followed with 10 kills, seven service aces and 24 assists from his setter position.
Thomas Bogarowski (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) added nine kills and eight digs while
Kyle Price (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) led the Colonel backline with a team-high 14 digs
After falling in the first set 25-15 against host CCNY, Wilkes rallied sweeping the next three sets 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16 to claim the victory. Sales led the attack and passing game with nine kills, 10 digs and 20 assists.
Mike Morrison (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) contributed eight kills and three solo blocks.
Wilkes continues its road stretch Thursday traveling to New Jersey City University for a match starting at 7:00 p.m.
