EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team won a pair of matches Saturday posting a 9-0 victory over Delaware Valley University in both teams' MAC Freedom opener before taking another 9-0 decision against Penn State Abington in the second match of the day.
 
With the two wins Wilkes moves to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in MAC Freedom matches.
 
Wilkes took a 3-0 lead after doubles play allowing just one point through the three pairs matches. The Colonels then used straight set wins from Artyom Nabokin (Las Vegas, NV/Danvers) at No. 1, Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) at No. 2, Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) at No. 3, Gabriel Velez (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) at No. 4, Will Miller (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) at No. 5 and Alec Levin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) at No. 6 to clinch the match in singles competition.
 
The Colonels jumped out to another 3-0 lead against PSU Abington before single wins from Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) at No. 1, Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) at No. 2, Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) at No. 3, Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) at No. 4, Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) at No. 5 and Neidig at No. 6 to sweep its second match of the afternoon.
 
Wilkes returns to the courts Wednesday hosting Eastern University in a MAC Freedom match starting at 2:30 p.m. while a split squad travels to Yeshiva University for a non-league match at 7:00 p.m.
