EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team recorded a pair of victories clinching a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament in the process with 9-0 wins over Misericordia and Penn College on Thursday afternoon.
 
Wilkes improved to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in MAC Freedom matches following the two wins.
 
Wilkes opened the day with a sweep of Misericordia taking all three doubles flights before winning all six single matches in straight sets. The win also clinched the tenth straight MAC Freedom Tournament appearance for the Colonels.
 
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) (No. 1), Artyom Nabokin (Las Vegas, NV/Danvers) (No. 2), Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) (No. 3), Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) (No. 4), Gabriel Velez (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) (No. 5) and Will Miller (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) (No. 6) took singles wins for Wilkes against the Cougars.
 
The Colonels then made easy work of Penn College in its second match of the day. Wilkes only allowed six points through both doubles and singles winning all six singles flights in straight sets. Murphy, Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York), Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) and Velez all scored singles wins for the Wilkes.
