Wilkes Men's Tennis Ends Season in NCAA Second Round Against No. 10 Williams
AMHERST, MA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team saw its season come to a close in the second round of the NCAA Championships as the Colonels fell 5-0 to No. 10 Williams College on Friday morning.
Wilkes finished its 2016-17 season with a 23-4 overall record, tying the school record for most wins in a season (finished 23-3 last year).
Williams took all three doubles flights to jump out to a 3-0 lead after pairs play. Wilkes' No. 1 duo of
Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and
Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) fell in a close 8-5 match.
Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and
Andrew Neidig (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley) dropped an 8-4 decision at No. 2.
Williams then clinched the match with victories at No. 3 and No. 5 in singles play to advance to the quarterfinal round. Murphy was leading his No. 1 singles flight for Wilkes.
