Saturday Trip to Eastern Next Up For Wilkes Basketball

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to travel to St. Davids, Pa. to face Eastern University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Colonels enter at 4-9 overall and 0-3 in MAC Freedom games so far this season. Wilkes dropped Wednesday night's road contest at Delaware Valley University 83-71 after battling back to take a brief fourth quarter lead.

Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) leads the Lady Colonels attack with 10.3 points-per-game and 7.7 rebounds-per-game. Those numbers are good for 14th and sixth in the conference respectively. She scored a career-high 20 points and hit five three-point field goals against Delaware Valley. Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) is also averaging double figures with 10.0 points. Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) (9.5 ppg and 6.7 rpg) has recorded consecutive double-doubles with 18 points and 14 rebounds Monday against Penn State Hazleton and 12 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday against Delaware Valley. Alfano and Emily Sofranko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Marian Catholic) lead Wilkes with 2.5 assists-per-game.

Wilkes is averaging 60.7 ppg while allowing 74.5 ppg.

The Eagles stand at 3-10 overall and are also 0-3 in conference action to date. Eastern fell 67-52 at Misericordia Wednesday night in its latest contest.

Eastern is led by Taylor Price's 13.2 ppg. Regie Robinson leads the MAC Freedom with 10.4 rpg and also scores 11.2 ppg and Amanda Riiff scores in double figures with 10.2 ppg.

The Eagles are scoring 57.1 ppg and surrendering 62.1 ppg.

The Colonels sit at 10-4 overall and are tied atop the MAC Freedom standings with a perfect 3-0 record to start the conference season. Wilkes used a 32-6 run to start the second half to eventually beat Delaware Valley 78-69 on the road Wednesday night.

Wilkes has four players averaging in double figures led by Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields)'s 15.1 ppg. Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) (14.9), Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) (12.7), and Connor Evans (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (10.5) round out the double figure scorers with Evans recording a season-high 19 points Wednesday against Delaware Valley. Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) is third in the conference with 7.4 rpg and Mullins is eighth with 6.6 rpg. Robinson's 35 makes from behind the arc are second in the MAC Freedom and Pecorelli's 31 place him fifth. Pecorelli leads Wilkes with 2.6 apg and Evans, Robinson, Mullins, and Landon Henry (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) all average at least 2.0 apg as well.

The Colonels are fourth in the MAC Freedom averaging 76.4 ppg and are second defensively allowing 68.4 ppg. Wilkes is currently outscoring its opponents by a conference best 8.0 points.

Eastern enters with a 7-7 overall record and have started MAC Freedom play at 2-1. The Eagles dropped their last game 82-72 Wednesday night on the road at Misericordia.

Victor Pena is one of two players in the conference averaging a double-double. He is eighth with 13.2 ppg and leads the MAC Freedom with 11.5 rpg. Antonio Chapman (12.6) and Darius Washington (10.6) also score double figures and both have made at least 30 three-pointers this season.

Eastern is second in the conference scoring 80.9 ppg and are allowing 79.7 ppg.
