Bauer, Lopez and Racanelli Collect Gettysburg Invitational Titles for Wilkes Wrestling
GETTYSBURG, PA –
Nicholas Bauer (Coplay, PA/Wyoming Seminary) (125-pounds),
Jessie Lopez (Everett, WA/Everett) (141-pounds) and
Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) (165-pounds) all captured championships Saturday for the Wilkes University wrestling team at the Gettysburg Invitational. The Colonels placed second of six teams with 107.5 team points at the event held at Gettysburg College.

Bauer collected four wins to capture the 125-pound weight-class title. The freshman took down Owen Kretschmer of Castleton University by a 9-7 decision in the semifinal round and then defeated Nicholas Malinowski of McDaniel College with an 11-7 decision in the finals to win his first career title.
Lopez picked up two falls in his first two bouts in route to the 141-pound championship. He then defeated Sean Thompson of Gettysburg with a 5-3 decision in the semifinal round. The senior met
Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) in the finals winning by a 4-2 decision in overtime. Medrow placed second with a 3-1 record on the day. He picked up two 16-0 technical fall victories and then a fall at 0:42 in the semifinals over Skylar Minutelli of McDaniel.
Racanelli picked up falls over Efrain De Leon of Gettysburg, Makeela Fabrizio of Penn College and Tristan Chen of Gettysburg in the first three rounds and then defeated Daniel Bergeron of Penn College by a 21-4 technical fall in the finals of the 165-pound weight-class.
At 174-poounds
Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) placed second. The senior picked up a 17-1 technical fall in the quarterfinals and then an 11-4 decision victory over Crawford Oswald of Gettysburg in the semifinals.
Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) beat Brendan McGinley in the semifinals of the 197-pound weight-class with a 4-0 decision before falling in the finals by a close 10-8 decision to place second.
Dylan O'Connor (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr) went 3-1 on the day to finish third in the 133-pound bracket. He defeated Tyler Schultz of Castleton 9-7 in the third-place bout.
Joshua Brown (Plains, PA/Coughlin) also placed third as he won the 149-pound third-place bout by a 4-0 decision over Traken Sutton of Gettysburg. The freshman went 3-1 on the day.
John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) rounded out the place-winners for Wilkes with a third place effort at 157-pounds. After an opening round loss the senior won four-straight bouts, including two by fall, to take third. He defeated
Michael Brown (Plains, PA/Coughlin) 8-6 in the third-place bout.
Jason DeBoard (Avoca, PA/Pittston) picked up four wins and
Max Shaffer (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) had three wins at the invitational.
Gettysburg took the team title with 114 points.
Wilkes returns to action next Saturday at the Southeast Duals in Salem, Va. The Colonels are scheduled to wrestle Otterbein University, Averett University, Greensboro College and Bluefield College with action getting underway at 12:00 p.m.
