Wilkes Basketball Heads to Cross-town Rival King's Tuesday

WILKES-BARRE – Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play hits its final week with the Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams not having to travel far for Tuesday's games as they head just down the road to cross-town rival King's College.

The doubleheader tips off with the women's game at 6:00 p.m. and the men will follow at 8:00 p.m. in a game that marks the 100th meeting between the two schools. Live links are provided below courtesy of the King's Sports Information Department:

The Lady Colonels enter with a 4-19 overall record and are 0-12 in the MAC Freedom after Misericordia got past Wilkes 87-54 at the Marts Center Saturday.

Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) moved into eighth place in Lady Colonels' history in the game by converting three three-point field goals to bring her career total to 85. She led Wilkes with 13 points and also pulled in seven rebounds to bring her season averages to 9.1 points-per-game (ppg) (t-20th in the MAC Freedom) and 6.4 rebounds-per-game (rpg) (11th). Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Lady Colonels with 9.7 ppg (18th) and 7.3 rpg (8th). Nicole Farrell (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) has been back in the lineup the past two games and pulled in a team-high eight rebounds in just 12 minutes of action against Misericordia. Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) is third on the team with 8.8 ppg and sixth in the conference with 80 made free-throws. Alfano and Emily Sofranko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Marian Catholic) are tied for the team lead with 2.1 assists-per-game (apg).

Wilkes scores 57.6 ppg and allow 78.3 ppg on the season.

King's enters with a 14-9 overall record and are in second place in the conference with a 9-3 record. The Lady Monarchs had their six-game win streak snapped Saturday with a loss at DeSales University.

Rebecca Prociak leads the Lady Monarchs with 13.9 ppg and Alexis Steeber and Mackenzie Yori are also in the top 10 in conference scoring at 12.0 ppg and 11.9 ppg respectively. Olivia Hoffman pulls in 8.7 rpg and Prociak averages 8.6. Yori is second in the MAC Freedom with 53 made three-pointers.

The Lady Monarchs average 60.4 ppg while allowing 58.2 ppg. King's won the first meeting of the season 75-59 at the Marts Center on January 20th.

The Colonels guaranteed they will play in the MAC Freedom semifinals with an 86-72 win at home over Misericordia Saturday afternoon. Currently Wilkes stands in first place at 10-2 in the conference and can clinch home court advantage throughout the MAC Freedom postseason with a win against King's Tuesday or in the regular season finale against Eastern University at home Saturday. The Colonels are 17-6 overall for their most wins since the 2011-12 season when they went 17-10 and reached double digit conference wins for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) tied his season-high of 23 points and Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) set a new season-high of 20 points in Saturday's win against Misericordia. Robinson leads the team with 14.7 ppg (t-4th) and also averages 5.5 rpg (14th) and has made 59 three-pointers (3rd). Brunner brought is scoring average up to 9.3 ppg and he is tied with Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) for the team lead with 7.3 rpg (t-4th). Mullins pulled in 14 boards Saturday and is also third on the team in scoring with 12.3 ppg (t-13th). The Colonels have four regular-rotation players that shoot over 50 percent from the floor on the season. Mason Gross (Pittston, PA/Pittston) leads the way (59-of-100) at 59 percent, Tommy Bowen (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) (43-of-76) is at 56.6 percent, Brunner (81-of-157) is at 51.6 percent, and Mullins (85-of-166) is at 51.2 percent.

Wilkes is scoring 75.9 ppg and giving up 69.0 ppg this season.

King's is 10-13 overall and 6-6 in the conference. The Monarchs were eliminated from semifinal contention in the MAC Freedom postseason with Saturday's 96-68 loss at DeSales.

Connor Callejas is second in the conference averaging 17.9 ppg and is also second with 65 makes from behind the arc. Chris Fazzini also scores in double figures with 12.4 ppg and leads King's with 6.0 rpg.

The Monarchs are averaging 80.0 ppg while conceding 85.1 ppg. Wilkes held King's well below its scoring average in the first meeting when the Colonels won 76-64 in the Marts Center January 20th.
