Wilkes Basketball Set for Trip to DeSales Thursday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams are set to travel to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action Thursday night at Billera Hall Gymnasium after being postponed today due to weather.

Game times are the same with the women set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. and the men's game featuring the two teams currently atop the MAC Freedom standings to follow at 8:00 p.m. Live links are provided below courtesy of the DeSales Sports Information Department:

The games are scheduled to be broadcast LIVE on TV-2 sports locally in the Lehigh Valley.

The Lady Colonels enter with a 4-17 overall record and are 0-10 in MAC Freedom games. On Saturday the Lady Colonels fell 63-45 at Manhattanville College.

Chelsea Erkes (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored a career-high 13 points against the Valiants. She connected on three shots from behind the arc to bring her season total to a team-high 19. Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) leads Wilkes in scoring and rebounding. She is 18th in the conference with 9.7 points-per-game (ppg) and eighth with 7.2 rebounds-per-game (rpg). Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) scores 9.2 ppg (20th) and averages 2.1 assists-per-game (t-10th). She pulled in a career-best 12 rebounds against Manhattanville. Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) grabs 6.4 rpg (t-10th) and averages 1.2 blocks-per-game (5th). Emily Sofranko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Marian Catholic) is the team leader with 45 assists.

Wilkes is averaging 58.3 ppg and allowing 77.4 ppg this season.

DeSales comes in at 11-10 overall and 6-4 in the conference. Saturday the Bulldogs fell by a 72-60 score at FDU-Florham.

Leandra Sterner is the MAC Freedom's third leading scorer with 16.6 ppg. Morgan Birmelin also averages in double figures with 10.0 ppg and is the conference leader with 6.6 apg and 4.2 steals-per-game. Bridget Walsh leads the team with 5.9 rpg.

The Bulldogs score 66.4 ppg while conceding 59.3 ppg. DeSales defeated Wilkes 101-36 on January 17th at the Marts Center.

The Colonels are 15-6 overall and 8-2 in the MAC Freedom after their five-game win streak was snapped at Manhattanville Saturday. The Valiants beat the Colonels 73-63 to slide Wilkes into a first-place tie with DeSales in the conference.

Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) led the Wilkes effort Saturday with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Mullins is third on the team in scoring with 12.7 ppg (11th) and second on the team with 6.9 rpg (7th). Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) is the Colonels leading scorer at 14.2 ppg (5th) and averages 5.6 rpg (t-13th), 32.3 minutes-per-game (4th), and has made a team-best 50 three-pointers (3rd). Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) scores 14.0 ppg (6th) and averages 5.4 rpg (t-16th), 2.8 apg (5th), and 2.0 three-pointers per-game (7th). Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) leads the team with 7.2 rpg (t-4th) and scores 8.8 ppg. Connor Evans (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) is fourth on the team with 10.4 ppg and second with 2.5 apg.

Wilkes scores 75.6 ppg while allowing 69.0 ppg and leads the MAC Freedom by outrebounding its opponents by 7.1 this season.

DeSales enters at 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs are on a five-game winning streak to climb into a tie atop the MAC Freedom standings with Wilkes after a close 82-80 win at FDU-Florham Saturday.

Four Bulldogs score in double figures led by Kweku Dawson-Amoah at 14.9 ppg and he is joined by Tracy Simsick (12.4), Luke Connaghan (11.4), and Connor Jones (10.3). Dawson-Amoah leads the conference in field-goal percentage on 117-of-176 shooting for 66.5 percent and is the team leader with 7.2 rpg.

The Bulldogs average 76.0 ppg and give up a conference-best 68.2 ppg this season. Wilkes handed DeSales its last loss by a 72-66 score on January 17th at the Marts Center.
