Wilkes Basketball Welcomes Misericordia Saturday

WILKES-BARRE - The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams take on Misericordia University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action at the Marts Center Saturday afternoon.

The women tip-off at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:00 p.m. in a crucial game atop the MAC Freedom standings. Live links are provided below for both games:

The Lady Colonels come into the game with a 4-18 overall record and are 0-11 in the MAC Freedom. They fell 89-46 Thursday night at DeSales University.

Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) led Wilkes with 10 points and eight rebounds in the loss to DeSales and leads the team with 9.7 points-per-game (ppg) and 7.3 rebounds-per-game (rpg). She is shooting 72-of-173 for 42.2 percent. Her 120 defensive rebounds rank fourth in the MAC Freedom. Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) and Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) each score 8.9 ppg. Chelsea Erkes (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) leads the Lady Colonels with 19 made three-pointers and Maddie Kelley (Dallas, PA/Dallas) leads the team in field-goal percentage going 35-of-78 for a 44.9 percent rate.

Wilkes is scoring 57.8 ppg and giving up 78.0 ppg.

Misericordia is 14-8 overall and 7-4 in the MAC Freedom after losing 74-59 at King's College Thursday night. The Cougars are in a three-way tie for third place in the conference with three games remaining.

Japriya Carroll's 11.0 ppg leads three players scoring in double figures for the Cougars. Rachel Carmody (10.4) and Paige Wampole (10.2) join her. Wampole leads the team with 8.8 rpg and Carmody is second with 7.7.

The Cougars average 67.3 ppg and allow 54.9 ppg. Misericordia defeated Wilkes 89-33 on January 24th in Dallas, Pa.

The Colonels enter in sole possession of first place in the MAC Freedom at 9-2 after completing the season sweep of DeSales in Center Valley, Pa. Thursday night by a 72-67 score. Wilkes is 16-6 overall and will clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom semifinals with a win or King's loss over the last three games.

Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) shot an efficient 6-of-9 from the floor including 5-of-8 from behind the arc for 18 points against DeSales. Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) also added 18 points. The duo lead the team with 14.4 ppg (t-5th in the MAC Freedom) and 14.2 ppg (7th). Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) scores 12.5 ppg (t-13th), grabs 6.9 rpg (6th) and averages 1.7 steals-per-game (5th). Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) pulls in 7.2 rpg (4th) and scores 8.8 ppg. Connor Evans (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) has scored in double figures in nine of the past 11 games.

Wilkes is scoring 75.4 ppg while allowing its opponents 68.9 ppg.

Misericordia enters with a 13-9 overall record and are one game behind Wilkes in a tie for second at 8-3 in the conference. The Cougars enter after two consecutive wins most recently against King's on the road Thursday night 94-85.

Jason Kenny leads the conference with 20.4 ppg and is tied for first with 3.8 assists-per-game. Tre' Fields (14.4), Tony Harding (11.6), and Noah Rovera (10.2) also score in doubles figures for the Cougars. Rivera is third in the conference with 7.5 rpg. Four Cougars have made at least 33 three-pointers this season led by Stone McCreary's 51.

The Cougars are averaging 79.2 ppg and allowing 75.0 ppg. Wilkes will look for the season sweep of Misericordia after defeating the Cougars 87-82 in overtime in Dallas, Pa. back on January 24th in the first meeting.
