Colonels Notebook
• The Wilkes University wrestling team will compete in four matches this Saturday at the North/South Duals in Collegeville, Pa. hosted by Ursinius College. The Colonels open the day against the University of Southern Maine (3-1) at 10:00 a.m. Then Wilkes faces two nationally ranked opponents back-to-back with No. 19 Stevens Institute of Technology (5-3) at 12:00 p.m. and No. 25 Messiah College (6-3) at 2:00 p.m. The day concludes with a match against Camden County College at 4:00 p.m.
 
• The Colonels return to the mat for the first time since competing at the 86th Annual Wilkes Open on December 22.
 
• Nicholas Racanelli (West Creek, NJ/Southern Regional) placed second at 165-pounds at the Ned McGinley Invitational to open the 2018-19 season on November 3. Thomas Stokes (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) placed third at 141-pounds and Ashton Gyenizs (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) placed fourth at 174-pounds. Wilkes finished fifth of 16 teams.
 
• Racanelli wrestled his way to the 165-pound title at the Gettysburg Invitational on November 10. Nicholas Bauer (Coplay, PA/Wyoming Seminary) won the 125-pound title and Jessie Lopez (Everett, WA/Everett) captured the 141-pound championship. Kyle Medrow (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson), Gyenizs and Moustafa Almeky (Shavertown, PA/Dallas) placed second while Dylan O'Connor (Somerset, NJ/Bishop George Ahr), Joshua Brown (Plains, PA/Coughlin) and John Ritter (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) placed third. Wilkes finished second overall out of six teams.
 
• Wilkes went 4-0 at the Southeast Duals on November 17 with Racanelli and Gyenizs going a perfect 4-0 on the day.
 
• Wilkes finished with a 2-1 record at the McDaniel Duals on December 1. Stokes led the way with a 3-0 record. Racanelli picked up a pair of pins in his two matches while Ritter and Almeky were also 2-0.
 
• The Colonels defeated Elizabethtown on December 8 by a 24-10 margin with wins in seven of the 10 bouts. The victory moved Wilkes to 7-1 this season in dual matches.
 
• Racanelli is ranked at No. 6 in the 165-pound weight class of the latest edition of the NWCA Individual Rankings and has a 15-1 overall record this season.
