Wilkes Men's Tennis Completes Day One Action at the ITA Regional
FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team completed day one action at the 2019 ITA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington on Friday. The Colonels went 3-4 in their matches on the day and have one doubles team still alive tomorrow in the main draw.
Brackets/Results
The Colonels had three teams competing in the B2 Doubles bracket with one advancing to the semifinal round tomorrow. The team of
Jack Maline (Northport, NY/Northport) and
Larry Scartz (Woodbridge, VA/Home School) received a bye into the quarterfinals where they faced Jonathan Noble and Nicholas Simeone. The Wilkes duo bested the team from Arcadia University by an 8-5 score and will play against Haverford College's Jason Edmonds and Abhinav Nallapareddy in the semifinals tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
The team of
Matt Angara (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) and
Alec Levin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) won their B2 Doubles round of 16 match 8-4 against Liam Pratt and Ronald Smith of St. Mary's College of Maryland. In the quarterfinals, Angara and Levin fell by an 8-4 score to Patrick Conde and Andrew Donelson of Hampden-Sydney College.
Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) and
Jolen Nortey (East Stroudsburg, PA/Evergreen) fell in their B2 Doubles round of 16 matchup in a tight 8-7 affair to Nicholas Balaci and Reed Morris of Lebanon Valley College. The Colonels duo will play in the consolation quarterfinals tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. against Paulo Emil Gonzal and Lukas Sanidas of Stevenson University.
In the Championship Singles bracket
Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) lost his round of 64 match to Andrew Watson of the University of Mary Washington 6-3, 6-0. Maderitz will play in the consolation round of 32 tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. against Stephen Wong of Swarthmore College.
Scartz advanced out of the round of 16 in the B4 Singles bracket with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Grayson White of Roanoke College. Then in the quarterfinals Scartz fell 6-4, 6-4 to Noah Sellinger of Muhlenberg College.
The Colonels will return to the courts tomorrow with at least three matches on the schedule at the ITA Southeast Regional.
